History

For 50 years, we have been creating the history of industry

BIPROMET has played an important role in the history of Polish industry, especially in the non-ferrous metals sector. Its achievements formed a foundation for developing new structures and technologies for smelters and non-ferrous metal plants.

  • 1950s-1960s

In 1950, the structures of the Construction and Design Office were transformed and the Non-Ferrous Metals Industry Office, BIPROMET, was established. It took over the work of three design teams located in Katowice, Złotoryja and Wizów near Bolesławiec.

These teams prepared numerous projects aimed at rebuilding Poland’s mining and metallurgical potential in the non-ferrous metals sector after the war. One of the key tasks at that time was design work connected with launching zinc and lead production plants in Poland.

In the 1960s, BIPROMET cooperated with a British company on the design of a new zinc and lead smelter in Miasteczko Śląskie. In 1962–1967, the company prepared the general development plan for the New Copper Ore Deposit and future plants of the Legnica-Głogów Copper District, including technical designs for the Lubin and Polkowice mines and ore enrichment plants

  • 1970s-1980s

As the non-ferrous metals processing industry developed rapidly, BIPROMET established dedicated technological and construction design studios. The company prepared feasibility studies, technical and economic assumptions, technical designs and single-stage designs, while also supervising the implementation and start-up of processing departments and plants.

BIPROMET developed expertise in metallurgical processes and copper processing in cooperation with foreign companies and the Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals. These competences enabled the company to carry out design and execution work for HM Głogów and HM Cedynia, as well as foreign investment projects in Brazil and Germany.

In the 1980s, investment expenditure decreased significantly. BIPROMET therefore focused mainly on modernization works aimed at improving existing technological lines. Later, growing quality and environmental requirements led to renewed investment and design work connected with innovative technologies compliant with BAT requirements.

  • 1990s-2000s

In 1990, BIPROMET completed its ownership transformation and became a joint-stock company under the name BIPROMET S.A. Due to Poland’s political and economic transition, demand for new industrial design projects declined, especially in heavy industry.

During this period, BIPROMET focused on the modernization of existing technological lines and expanded its activity into the iron, steel, mining, glass and general construction sectors. This led to the development of comprehensive investment implementation services. In 1992, the company completed its first turnkey project: the Julian Coal Fines Enrichment Plant in Piekary Śląskie.

BIPROMET also expanded its services in industrial construction and major environmental protection projects. Its experience with industries that were significant sources of air pollution encouraged the company to develop innovative solutions for air, water and wastewater protection.

In 2000, after acquiring OPAM from Katowice, BIPROMET expanded its organizational structure with units specializing in dedusting flue gases and industrial exhaust gases.

  • Today

In 2015, KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. acquired 100% of the company’s shares. As a result, BIPROMET became one of the companies belonging to the KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. Capital Group.

For nearly 70 years, BIPROMET has been present on the Polish and international design and construction markets. The company has a team of specialists combining knowledge, experience and competence in development projects. Its work is organized within six design studios dedicated to innovative solutions for key sectors of the economy, including power generation, steel and non-ferrous metallurgy, mining, cement, coke production and environmental protection.

The company provides comprehensive services as General Designer, Contract Engineer, General Investment Contractor, Works Contractor or project partner at every stage of the investment process.

Its experience has enabled the company to participate in major investment projects, including the modernization of the Orzeł Biały metallurgical plant, dedusting installations for ArcelorMittal in Poland and abroad, projects for the Třinec Iron and Steel Works in the Czech Republic, the coke battery dedusting installation for Koksownia Częstochowa Nowa, the construction of the GK Kęty – Alupol plant in Tychy, the expansion of Hydroaluminium in Chrzanów, the construction of Baterpol in Świętochłowice, and the Pyrometallurgy Modernization Programme for KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.
