The first stage of the internship as part of dual studies
We have completed the first stage of internships for students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice.
Dual studies are a form of education that allows students to combine theoretical knowledge acquired at university with practical experience in a professional environment. This opportunity is offered by BIPROMET, which accepts students for internships and enables them to participate in the day-to-day operations of the design office.
From the first days of their internships, the students became familiar with the organisation of work in the company and the tools used to prepare design documentation. Under the supervision of Jerzy Łabędź from the Technical and Mechanical Studio, as well as other experienced BIPROMET S.A. employees, they observed the course of project implementation, learned about the successive stages of a designer’s work and gradually became involved in carrying out specific tasks.
As Jerzy Łabędź emphasizes, for many students this is only the beginning of their professional path and they often do not yet know in which direction they want to develop. However, the internship gives them the opportunity to see what a designer’s work looks like in practice and what it involves on a daily basis.
“Students participate in the work of project teams and perform tasks adapted to their level of knowledge and skills. They have the opportunity to observe more complex elements of the design process, such as contact with investors, preparation of documentation or responding to unforeseen situations arising during project implementation. Working with us, they see various aspects of this work,” says the students’ supervisor, adding that an important element of the internship is the opportunity to work on real projects.
“Although students mainly perform support tasks, their work is part of a larger design process and is verified by more experienced employees. This allows them to learn in practice and become familiar with the entire design process. During the nearly two-month internship, the three students learned, among other things, about specialist programmes and systems used in our company to create and archive technical documentation. These were often tools they had not previously encountered, so the knowledge gained is an additional advantage,” continues Jerzy Łabędź.
This form of cooperation is beneficial both for students and for the company. Interns have the opportunity to test themselves in real working conditions, while the employer can observe their development and professional potential.
Dual studies allow students to prepare better for entering the labour market. People who gain professional experience already during their studies adapt more quickly to the work environment after graduation and are able to independently perform their first design tasks. From the company’s perspective, this is also an investment in the future.
Thanks to this cooperation, BIPROMET S.A. gets to know young people who may join the company’s staff in the future. The programme launched this year shows that combining education with practice can be an effective way to start a professional career, while also helping the company build a team of young, well-prepared engineers.
